Discover Dar es Salaam, a dynamic, modern city full of colour and excitement. Originally a small fishing village, this now major port and bustling commercial hub in East Africa is packed with unique opportunities to explore Tanzania’s diverse culture, history, cuisine and people.
This 4-day Experience is designed to give you a fabulous mix of the the old and the new, all while staying at a waterfront resort with a private beach.
Your local Experience Curator will welcome you upon your arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, and provide you with a briefing and transport to accommodation. We offer Meet & Greets in 7 languages (English, French, German, Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian, & Lithuanian). Availability is subject to a 48 hours request. Your stay for the next three nights is at White Sands Resort, situated on the shores of the Indian Ocean with over 500 m of pristine, private beach. Enjoy the rest of your day by the crystal clear water, taking advantage of their exciting amenities including an amusement park with water slides, beach-side internet access, a wellness centre, and water sport equipment.
After breakfast, our Experience Curator will pick you up from the Resort for your full-day immersive experience of Dar es Salaam. Highlights of the day include: Kivukoni Fish Market- One of the city's most popular attractions, where dhows dock at dawn to unload the night's delicious catch. Survey the wide variety of fish of every shape and size as you wander among the stalls. Botanical Garden- Founded a century ago by Germans. Karimjee Hall- Admire the magnificent architecture while learning its historical significance. National Museum- Home to many historical treasures with a wide variety of exhibits including archaeological findings, rock paintings, ancient foot prints, and the remains of the first humans. Mwenge Carvers Market- Browse the stalls, chat with carvers, and pick out some souvenirs at ths market filled with unique carvings, traditional dresses, Tinga Tinga paints and more. Makumbusho Village Museum- Interactive cultural museum exploring the diversity of Tanzania. Kariakoo Market- Enjoy an authentic Tanzanian shopping experience at this busiest and most exciting market in Dar es Salaam. Mnazi Mmoja- An exciting, vibrant place to visit with strong historical significance, see the Uhuru Torch which was placed here in 1961 to celebrate Tanzania’s independence from Germany. Lunch at the Peacock Hotelto experience authentic Tanzanian hospitality and cuisine. After lunch, visit the Clock Tower,St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Dar Port, and Samora Avenue to see and learn about the historical Askari Monument. Visit the beautiful old Azania Front Lutheran Church and take in the views of Dar es Salaam harbour from the roof. Return to White Sands Resort in the late afternoon. You have an option to enjoy live band music in the evening.
A day trip to historical Bagamayo town, 70 km north of Dar es Salaam. The oldest town in Tanzania (part of it was founded in the 8th century), it was the main port before Dar es salaam's heyday. It was also the site of East Africa's first mosque, currently known as kaole ruins. Some of the highlights of Bagamayo with historical Arab, German and British colonial influences that we will discover today include: -13th century Kaole ruins-old fort -The German BOMA -The Arabs Tea House -The slave port/German port -The Caravan Serai Museum -The cross at the beach -The Baobab tree at The Old Church -The church museum -The old fathers House -The Missionaries Cemetery -The former slave village -Tasuba Arts and Sciences College After you've had your fill of the day's activities, we'll drive you back to the White Sands Resort.
After breakfast, you will have the opportunity to visit Wasafi Studio, one of Tanzania's and East Africa's largest entertainment studios. Your Experience Curator will safely transport you to the airport in time for your flight home.
